the bench i have seen was powered by a 30hp motor turning a huge blower, actuallythe 30 hp is the largest of 3 blowers they have on the bench.i believe a 20 and a 10 are also used,so you can just imagine what this thing can do when all 3 are giong! it was connected to the top of a big settling chamber, maybe 6'x6'x6'? the chamber had a series of plates installed that were full of louvers.about 1' from the bottom is where the other tube went out of the box and was plumbed to a plenum.the carb was bolted onto this plenum for testing.my understanding is that as the air entered the settling chamber the velocity slowed way down so most of the fluid would fall out of the air .what did not fall out would be captured by these louvers which were offset in the chamber.the bottom of this chamber is used as a tank for the fluid.it is plumbed into a fuel pump and reg. which supplies the carb to be tested.it is a pitot type bench and was custom built by them for doing carb r&d .
