Well I went to the neighborhood Home Depot again today to look at different wood. The MDF and Melamine is all 3/4". The plywoods here are all the 18mm now. That is about 1mm thinner than the 3/4". 3/4" MDF is $30.99 per sheet, oak cabinet grade 18mm is $49.99 per sheet and they had some other plywood the guy called "agathe" or something like that that had a softer wood on the outside 18mm for $39.99. He said that it was actually stronger than the oak plywood becasue it has more layers and it's glue. He also said both were much stronger than MDF. So you see that for $9 per sheet you can build a plywood bench that should be stronger.
