Discussion on general flowbench design

Postby Mousehouse1 » Tue Sep 13, 2005 3:17 pm

I am just about complete with my flow bench. It is a mercdog design mostly.

I was wondering if a 1/4" or 3/8" thick clear piece of plexi-glass/plastic would handle the pressure? It is going where the orifice rod and valve rods come out of the bench. Screws every 2-3 inches all the way around.

I thought about using a clear piece so I could see the orifice disk and make sure it is centered in the hole.

Any thoughts?

Now there's a unique idea. I'd say go at least 3/8".

Do you think the threads for the air control valve rods will hold up? You might want to think about installing some sort of metal thread insert for those.

It would be pretty interesting to induce some smoke into the flow and see what actually happens inside the top plenum.

Larry that is a good idea as well.

I will have to see how it works. I should have it together by this weekend. I will let everyone know how it turns out.

You could try doubling the plates to gain more strength if needed.

Sounds very interesting!
