That is the big advantage of staged motors but I would hate for you to have a fire because you were over the max amperage of the lines in the system.

I used 8 115923 motors recently in a bench and used 20 amp 220 type breakers (one motor on each leg). The specs say each of the motors will pull over 10 amps but without a load they seem to be fine. I will post more info once we get out latest fixturing set up and we are moving air. I will be doing some 4 cylinder air distribution work and we are fabricating the air connectings into the intake manifold. The test will be in the "blow mode" and the engine has orifice plates in each bore to read the given distribution per cylinder.

Are you sure that the maximum attainable blocked flow pressure is only ever going to be 28 inches? What if you are running some motors flat out at high flow, and a rag suddenly gets sucked into the inlet port? Most two stage vacuum motors can easily pull perhaps 4psi, and some a lot more than that.

That 861 Lbs suddenly becomes 3,400+ Lbs. Really scary stuff. I would be building some sort of large area safety pressure relief valve.
Also known as the infamous "Warpspeed" on some other Forums.

Or you have some "friend" who puts his hand over the intake port while the bench is going to see how it sucks. Test pressure goes to the top of the manometer and you have a mess inside your bench.

The vacuum side is going to be fine - its got all much smaller surface areas with larger amounts of support. The pressure side is the only potential problem. The good news is that any failure will probably just blow a panel section off the frame at which point you've got your relief valve.

We have the FP3 automated pressure control that we will be mounting on the distribution box - I'm not sure how fast it reacts but it might well function as somethign of a safety valve.

FWIW I'm all for reinforcing the panels more but we have a time crunch to get a particular head done now, so we kind of need to hurry up and finish it.

Agree, Get it working, be careful, and if you blow out a panel down the road outside of the shock effect it should be easily repairable with your design.

I can name at least 5 people who have hurt their bench at some point so it is not really uncommon.

Here are some updated pictures of the motor box with a bunch of motors hung on it. We have made more progress since this - 5 of the valves are fully installed and the other 4 are ready to go. The flappers are all installed and a couple more permanant panels have been mounted.

And yes - those big ones are home central vacuum system motors :D

good progress. I would place three engines on a diagonal in each section. It would save dimensions of a design.

well - we finished the motor box yesterday and fired up all 16 motors briefly. OH MY GOODNESS. even with the side panel off of the distribution chamber the vacuum up there was strong enough to pull your hand into the box.

The flappers work really well too. And best of all? I didn't blow the main breaker!

So you had the side panel off and you were impressed with the suction from
the motors when you put your hand over the hole. Imagine the side panel on and a rag or cloth getting sucked into the bench and closing off the inlet hole, I guarantee that your panels will see some real stress.

Once you have the bench sealed up, redo the "breaker test" with the bench
drawing on a dominator carb. Typically the motors will draw much more amperage when under a restriction vs an open sided bench deal.

Good job on the bench cabinet and your plenum box.
