Discussion on general flowbench design

Postby Tony » Mon Oct 13, 2008 6:02 pm

My background is that I am a retired electronics design engineer that likes to play around with automotive toys.

I am very happy with my pulse width modulated retarder power control unit, but it is potentially a pretty lethal thing for other people to mess with.
However, I am quite willing to share the details if anyone is at all interested.

O/k, but this is not the place for it. The dyno section is more appropriate.

Ok just some trivial information that I found interesting and maybe someone else might

King Cobra Motorsports - Air Flow Data
This is airflow data that has been measured on Tom Bennett's flow bench (Graham, Washington) or published in various magazine articles.

I took a 4.220" steel sleeve, cut it to 2.22" long, cast a 0.3" Red-Silicone RTV ring to 1 end for contacting the head. I cut head-gaskets for their pattern but have not figured how to make the alignment convenient & common for going CYL-to-CYL. So I have a neato Flow Sleeve.

Other end of the sleeve is flat-bottom with a central 1 7/8" sleeve Pressed & epoxied in place ( standard Vacuum cleaner attachment neck). This is to help pull air representatively (not perfectly) to the Piston's position of max velocity & cam's peak lift.
======================================================
I reached a dead-end when I found the Central Vacuum only pulled 3"Mercury ( Vac Gauge) but a fella ( Chris) here explaind this site & that I need to use Water inches. <-- so I said DUH to my self and joined.
12.9s @ 106.5MPH on 87 Octane, no ping. <--should be high 11's but I dunno why I'm so slow.

This crowd Brzezinski Racing Products, Inc. some very nice accessories for cylinder head flow testing

I'm lead to believe superflow use their services fro the supply of some of these accessories for their own flow bench

Automotive Flow Bench Testing Equipment: Labor Saving Flow Testing "Sliders" for our Aluminium Flow Stand

Thought i would share this info give some people ideas , a picture is worth a thousand words

cheers
