In Australia there is 240/415 volts three phase run everywhere, even in strictly residential areas. But they don't always run all three phases from the street to your house, although it is always there at the pole.
Single phase 80 Amps is the normal minimum residential feed.

Many private homes are supplied with two phases at 2 x 80 Amps + neutral, especially if electricity is used for cooking, airconditioning or heating.

But if you have more than 2Hp of airconditioning, you can request all three phases run to your house and have 3 x 80 amps + neutral available, which is what I have. 240 Amps is a considerable amount of power at 240 volts, we are very fortunate here.
Also known as the infamous "Warpspeed" on some other Forums.

Tony,

That is great here where i live in Maryland (in the country) three phase is available for Agricultural use but no residential. So its on the pole out front but i have to convert from 240vac mains to three phase.
