Room Requirements

Discussion on general flowbench design

Postby cspeier » Tue Oct 28, 2008 7:41 pm

Hey Guys..

Have a question. I'm building a new shop and I want a room designed for my bench. However, other than maybe the bench putting of heat, is there any draw backs? The room will have high ceilings, large window I can open, ceiling fan and large door. However, it's not going to be very big. I want a room I can keep clean for engine assembly also.

What do you think? As long as I have air moving and such I'm thinking it souldn't be an issue.

[color=#000000]Chad,

Not sure what you normally work on but in my old shop my room was split in two sides, one had flow bench, and a workbench with valve spring checker and room for final head assembly (two v8 heads length wise). The other side was tool box with basics & motor assembly tools and work bench for parts layout along with my Rod heater and rod piston balancing setup. Under the benches gave me room to store clean bagged blocks waiting on assembly and I had one shelf on the back wall to store new clean parts in the queue. The two benches were far enough apart to have a big block on a stand and walk around it to work comfortably. Wall cabinets had the usual Sims and seals precisions measuring tools and supplies needed for testing and assembly. So if I recall it was like 10X12 and would get cluttered fast during off season rebuilds and two of us had to dance around each other. Best of luck to you I sure miss those day
