My Pump

Discussion on general flowbench design

Postby madman » Thu Nov 20, 2008 7:48 pm

My Vaccum Pump has Max Pressure 50 Inches H2o, Min Vaccum 45 in H2O. This info comes from the attached Plate. It is a Gast Model R4310A-2 CFM OPEN 90. Since i profess to knowing nothing regarding Flow benches i am wondering if this Motor has The JAM (so to speak) to operate my Flow Bench Properly? Thanx Guys I am looking forward to building Mine shortly awaiting Plans.

It does sound rather small. Ninety CFM open flow is not much, and 50 inches at zero flow is not a lot either.
Just one fairly ordinary average vacuum cleaner motor would probably beat that quite easily.
Even for small capacity motorcycle work, you will probably need to plan for at least two vacuum cleaner motors to have a worthwhile excess flow capacity.
More is always better, because you can always turn down the flow. But if your bench just does not have the balls to pull enough air, you are snookered.
Also known as the infamous "Warpspeed" on some other Forums.
