Has anyone tried this or is it just a wifes tail. Over on Speed the was a short discussion on it but few of the top porters commented. In therory it sounds good or is it just putting a band-aid on a major wound.

It's not new, I believe Ken Sperling was playing with it 15 years ago (if not 20). The idea was to make the port short turn radius act like a golf ball where the dimples assist in loft.

It might have helped on factory iron heads where the short turn improvement options were; add metal by welding, add epoxy, or dimple the ssr. I don't pretend to know if it worked-- I never tried it.
