eddy current chassis dyno

Postby viper6383 » Thu Dec 21, 2006 2:01 am

We will be building an eddy current rig next spring and looking for rollers and brakes. The two brand we know of for ECs are Telma and Klam but hoping someone else knows of others? We are also looking for test rollers. Anyone here built an EC dyno? We may opt for water braking for out higher HP dyno but our smaller one we really want the simplicity of EC braking.

Also if anyone has input on DA transducers and hardware, we will be shopping for that too. Thanks

Brandon, I have been sort of looking into all this myself.

The place to start is to first find a suitably sized and rated eddy current retarder, then design the roller diameter to match maximum expected vehicle speed to maximum rated retarder Rpm. You might come up with (for example) something like 120Mph at 4,000 roller Rpm.

That pretty much fixes the required roller diameter, but you are going to be limited by the available sizes of seamless commercial tube or pipe. But the size will probably fall within the eight to twelve inch roller diameter range.
Also known as the infamous "Warpspeed" on some other Forums.
